Ingredients: 1 stick margarine ½ cup Crisco 2 cups sugar 5 egg yolks (save whites) 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 cups plain flour 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup coconut 5 egg whites, beaten 1 cup buttermilk
Icing 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese ½ cup Crisco, or margarine 1 box powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:Cream margarine. Crisco and sugar. Add vanilla and egg yolks. Sift flour with baking soda. Add flour alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture -- beginning and ending with flour. Stir in nuts and coconut. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in three nine-inch cake pan at 350° for 20 minutes, or until the center springs back when tested.
Sprinkle with finely ground nuts!
(NOTE: Have cream cheese at room temperature. Mix all ingredients together until icing is smooth, and put on cool cake.) |
