Ingredients:

These biscuits use the most basic of ingredients, which the baker would at least stand some chance of getting hold of.

Directions:
Directions:
2 Cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup ice water

Mix the flour, salt and sugar together. Cut in the shortening and add enough ice water to make a stiff dough. Beat the dough with a mallet until smooth, folding frequently. This takes about 20 minutes. Roll out the dough, cut with a small cookie cutter and bake for about 30 minutes in a moderate oven (375 degrees F). If desired dust with confectioners sugar. Makes about 20 small biscuits.
