Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 Cup Shortening
1 Cup Sugar
2 Eggs
2 Teaspoons Vanilla - I always add a little extra
2¾ Cups Flour
½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
½ Teaspoon Baking Powder
½ Teaspoon Salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together dry ingredients and slowly add to shortening mixture. Chill for at least 2 hours, but preferably overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll and cut in desired shapes and sizes. Tip: I usually roll the dough about 1/2 inch thick and bake them 9-10 minutes so they are soft. For thinner cookies, bake 8-9 minutes.

These cookies are good plain, frosted or sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar before baking.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is a family favorite. The history behind the recipe is when I was a kid, Grandma Moyer ordered some cookie cutters and this recipe came with it. Every Christmas Grandma makes a bunch of dough and all the girls get together to bake and decorate.
