Notes: Growing up, we had dessert (and biscuits!) with supper every night! Banana pudding was always one of my favorites. I never realized that banana pudding was strictly a southern dessert until Barry and I married and moved to Kalamazoo, MI for Barry to go to grad school. I sat out of school for a year and got a job as a secretary in the College of Education to establish residency so I could go back to school the next year as an in-state student. Sometime that year, the College of Ed. secretaries had a luncheon and I said I would bring banana pudding. Nobody had ever heard of it – they thought I was just making a box of Jello banana-flavored pudding! When I got home, I discovered that there was a recipe on the box of Nilla wafers for “Southern Banana Pudding!”
Vanilla pudding is the base for the recipe – you may make it from scratch, but I always make it with Jello Cook and Serve vanilla pudding. (NEVER instant pudding!)
