1 c butter
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1½ tsp vanilla
3 c flour
1 tsp salt
⅓ c baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir flour, salt and soda together. Add to mixture. Mix thoroughly with hands. Roll into 3 rolls; 1½” in diameter. Roll in colored sugar. Refrigerate for several hours. Cut into slices. Bake at 400º for 7 to 12 minutes.

The original recipe called for making 3 sizes of cookies and stacking them with icing in between. Hence the name Christmas Tree cookies. Mom did that the first time and since then just makes round cookies.
