2 Cups of dried split peas
1 Cup of diced onions
1 Cup of diced celery
1 Bay leaf
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
6 Cups water
1 Ham bone
1 Cup chicken broth
½ Stick margarine

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse the peas, then combine in a pot with onion, celery, bay leaf, sugar, salt, ham bone and water
Bring to a boil and skim, then cover and simmer 45 minutes to an hour until peas are tender
Remove bone and bay leaf
Puree the soup in a blender then return to the pot. Stir in the chicken broth and bring back to the boil
and taste for seasoning.
Take off the heat and stir in the margarine

Serve piping hot with croutons or fish crackers
