Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ c. shortening or 1 stick of frozen butter
2 ½ c. self-rising flour
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425º. Combine the flour and buttermilk and stir until sticky. Then stir in shortening (if using frozen butter, grate to ease the burden and add before buttermilk.)

Empty bowl on floured surface and flour top to make dough manageable. Pinch off your preferred size biscuit (somewhere between a golf ball and a baseball) and place in an ungreased pie pan. Take a spoon and place a small amount of oil in it and pat the tops of the biscuits down. As you pat, allow a small amount of oil to spill out and smooth the top of the biscuit. Cook for 15 minutes or until browned.

Optional method: For more uniform biscuits, flatten the dough to a 9x5 or ¾ inch thickness, then fold in the 2 short ends and repeat sequence 4 times. Use a round cutter and place on a parchment lined jelly roll pan and cook for 15 minutes or until browned.
