6 to 8 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 TBSP. Ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups molasses
2 TBSP. vinegar
4 tsp. soda
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift six cups flour, with salt and spices. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, beat all together until light. Add molasses and vinegar then sifted ingredients. Lastly, add soda dissolved in boiling water. If necessary add more flour to make soft dough. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 350º. Makes about 10" plump spongy cookies.
