2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening (butter)
2 eggs
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup pecans (or walnuts), chopped
1 cup dates cut up
1/3 cup maraschino cherries drained and chopped
2 1/2 cups coarsely crushed cornflakes

Combine flour, soda, baking powder and salt and set aside.
In large bowl. cream sugar and shortening. Blend in eggs, milk and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients; mix thoroughly. Stir in pecans, dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls into crushed cornflakes; coat thoroughly; form into balls. Place on greased baking sheet. Top each with 1/4 maraschino cherry. Bake at 375º F. for 12 - 15 minutes.
