1 cup molasses
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup warm water
2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
6 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1 egg
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Combine molasses and shortening; bring to a boil and simmer 2-3 minutes. Cool.
Cream together sugar, egg and vanilla. Add cooled molasses mixture.
Dissolve soda in warm water and add to the mixture.
Mix in dry ingredients.
Roll out and cut into desired shapes.
Bake at 375º for 6-8 minutes.
