Directions:Stir in all ingredients just until dry ingredients are moistened. Roll out between waxed paper. Take one prune and wrap it with just enough dough to cover the prune. Pinch dough around edges to close. Repeat until either all prunes or all dough is used up.
Cooking: Boil water (pot or fry pan with edge to hold water) with small amount of salt. Drop covered prunes in boiling water and cook until they float up to the top. (Dan recalls that John like to fry his raw prune dumplings instead of boiling.) Remove from water with a slotted spoon to remove excess water and keep warm. When ready to eat, sprinkle with a generous helping of walnut sugar mixture.
To make walnut sugar mixture, put shelled walnuts into food processor until finely ground and add granulated sugar to taste. Grind up together until nuts are finely chopped. |

Notes: When Pat first joined the family, Dan told her that they ate prunes and dough for Christmas Eve dinner and for dessert, Mom would also make raisin squares and apple squares. I told Dan that would not work for Pat (with her GI tract). So we compromised and we now have prunes and dough on Christmas morning along with homemade Christmas Tree Bread. Prunes and Dough is a traditional Czechoslovakian recipe for Plum Surprises (Svestkove Knedilky), which Mom did some personal modifications as she saw fit.
