3 eggs, plus 2 egg yolks (or 4 eggs), slightly beaten
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Nutmeg

Directions:
Mix in order given. Strain into large oven dish or into custard cups. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg. Place in low rimmed pan of water in a 325º oven for 1 hour.

Dad Bauer was very fond of custard and one year when Mom Bauer went back East to visit Violet and family, Mildred made custard until she got it right! The water pan must not be deep.
