8 slices stale bread, crumbled
Milk
2 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla
4 eggs, well beaten
Butter

Directions:
Crumble bread and cover with milk well. Allow to stand 1/2 hour. It will be thin. Add sugar, vanilla and beaten eggs. Dot generously with butter. Bake at 325º until it puffs up in the center. Serve with Lemon Sauce or milk.
 

Lemon Sauce:


Ingredients:

1 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
Dash of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Combine cornstarch, sugar and salt; mix well. Add boiling water, stirring constantly. Boil gently 5 minutes. Add butter and lemon juice. (I usually double this.)

Mother (Irma Heflin Ullum) used to bake this in large amounts, when all our boys were home, and bring it over. I made the sauce. It was great!
