Ingredients: 8 oz. package of macaroni 4 Tbsp. butter 4 Tbsp. flour 1 c. milk 1 c. heavy cream ½ tsp. salt fresh ground pepper to taste 2 c. cheddar cheese shredded ½ c. bread crumbs or croutons 1 tomato

Directions:Preheat oven to 400º. Cook and drain macaroni package according to package directions and set aside. Melt butter in a large sauce pan. Add flour with salt and pepper; use a whisk to stir until well blended. Pour milk and cream in gradually; stirring constantly. Wait until same consistency each time before adding more. Bring to boiling point and boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add shredded cheese little by little and simmer an additional 5 minutes, or until cheese melts. Turn off the burner. Add macaroni to the saucepan and toss to coat with the cheese sauce.Transfer macaroni to a buttered baking dish or bowl. Place thinly slice tomato on top. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs or crushed croutons. Bake 20 min. or until the top is brownish. |
