3/4 pound ground beef
1/2 small onion, diced
1-1/2 tsp. oil
1 can (10-3/4 oz.) cream of mushroom soup
3/4 soup can milk
1 can (4 oz.) diced green chilies
10 – 12 corn tortillas
8 oz. shredded Cheddar Cheese

Brown beef and onion in oil, stirring to crumble meat. Combine soup and milk in saucepan and cook and stir until smooth. Then add chilies. Cut tortillas in 1 inch squares and place half in 8 x 8 inch baking dish. Spread half of the meat on tortillas, then half of the soup mixture and then half the cheese. Repeat the layers, end with cheese. Bake at 325ºF 20 to 30 minutes.

I have had this recipe from the LA Times for probably 40 years. It is very good and different from the typical tomato based Mexican casseroles.
