⅓ cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 ¼ cup water
1 ½ cups raisins
2 cups flour
½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
¾ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp clove
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Boil together the first 4 ingredients for 5 minutes then cool.
Sift flour and add salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices.
Gradually sift flour mixture into cooled mix and add vanilla.
Bake for 1 hour at 325ºF.
Cover pan with foil for first 20 mins.
