3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
4 T molasses
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
2-3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1/2 tsp ground cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º

Sift salt, baking powder, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, pepper and cloves. Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Add dry mixture.

Chill dough, roll in balls, dip in sugar. Bake 12-15 minutes.
