8 oz (200g) Self Raising Flour
Half teaspoon of salt
1 and a half oz butter
2 oz (25g) sugar
50g currants/sultanas (optional)
1 egg beaten with 75ml milk (1egg and milk to make a quarter pint of liquid)

Hi Robyn here is our recipe.

1. Mix flour and salt, rub in butter
2. Stir in sugar and fruit
3. Add egg and milk keep a wee bit over for brushing the tops of the scones
4. Knead lightly on a floured surface and roll out just over 1cm in thickness
5. Cut into rounds, re-roll the trimmings and cut more rounds
6. Place on a greased baking tray and brush the tops with the egg and milk
7. Bake in a hot oven 220 Deg.C or gas mark 7 for about 10-15 minutes. Check them after 12min.

Makes approx. 10 Scones

I have been using this recipe since Derek & I got married in 1973. It never fails.
Serve when cooled with strawberry jam and clotted cream delicious.
