1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg white
3/4 cup finely chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º F. Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Measure flour by sifting. Blend flour and salt. Stir in flour mixture. Roll 1 teaspoonful of dough into balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in nuts. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet; press thumb gently into centers. Bake 10-12 minutes. Cool. Fill holes with jelly or tinted sugar icing.
