1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup applesauce

Grease and flour pan. preheat oven to 350
In mixer cream together sugar and butter. add in beaten egg. Stir in the molasses. Blend the flour, baking soda, and spices. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in hot water and applesauce.

Pour in pan and bake about 45 min to 1 hour until toothpick comes out clean. Don't overcook. Cool for 10 min and remove from pan if you want or serve directly from pan.

Serve with Lemon sauce, ice cream or whipped cream.

If you prefer a dryer gingerbread don't add the applesauce. The house is a cookie jar. I only wish I could do that
