1/2 c. solid white shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
1. Bring shortening to room temperature.
2. Mash shortening with wooden spoon and add sugar.
3. Beat well until combined.
4. Add egg and vanilla in turn, beating well after each addition.
5. If using blender, combine first five ingredients at low speed, then increase speed until mixture is well blended.
6. Put remaining ingredients through sifter together.
7. Add to cookie dough about 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
8. For blender, add flour mixture at medium speed.
9. When all flour mixture is used up, the dough should be soft and come away from sides of bowl.
10. Divide dough in half and one at a time, roll halves out to 1/8” thickness on lightly floured board.
11. Cut into desired shapes, place on ungreased baking sheets.
12. Sprinkle with sugar.
13. Bake at 400º F for 5-7 minutes.
