"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain

3 tsp. sugar

dash of cinnamon
dash of ground nutmeg
3 tbsp. butter

1 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 3/4 cups boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cut in the butter until well blended. Mix in raisins. (I sometimes chop up an apple as well). Add buttermilk or sour milk to form a thick batter. Spoon the batter into a greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish.

Mix ingredients for the sauce in a large measuring cup and pour over the batter while hot.

Bake in a preheated oven set at 375 º for 30 minutes. Let cool in baking dish for t5 minutes before serving. This allows the sauce to thicken up a bit. Best served warm. (Cake rises while sauce settles to the bottom).
