4 cups flour
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 tsp soda
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. flavoring
2 eggs
1 cup milk

Re: Milk: Try one cup and use your own judgement re adding more to make a soft dough that will roll easily.

Method: Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Add dry sifted ingredients alternately with milk. Mix.

Roll out dough and cut into shapes. Grandma usually put a raisin in the center.

Bake at 350º F. (Probably 10 to 12 minutes. Just watch them.

Grandma loved children and she always had these cookies on hand for us! She was 90 years old when I took the picture of her making these delicious, sought after cookies. ( I don't know the exact time she used to bake them. Take care the first time you make them.)
