Cake:
12 eggs separated
3/4 cup sugar
3.4 cup pre-sifted cake flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla
Icing:
1 cup ground walnuts
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
2 cup icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Cake: Beat eggs until fluffy, add vanilla then gradually add sugar and continue mixing.
Gradually add flour and baking powder, mixing until light and fluffy.
In another bowl beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
Very gently fold yolk mixture into egg white and blend.
Grease and flour Three - 9 inch cake pans. Divide batter into the 3 pans.
Bake in a 350º oven for 15 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool, note that the cakes will shrink and this is normal.
Icing: Boil walnuts in the milk for a few minutes and cool completely.
In another bowl, cream butter gradually adding icing sugar and vanilla.
Add cooled walnut mixture and mix together... thoroughly spread between layers on top.
