Ingredients:
1 Cup Butter
1 ½ Cup Powdered Sugar
1 Egg
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
½ Teaspoon Almond Extract
2 ½ Cup Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Cream of Tartar (must be fresh)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Blend in flour, soda, and cream of tartar.

Refrigerate dough until firm (usually ½ hour).

Roll out – cut into shapes and bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes – until you can see the edges of the cookies begin to turn light brown.

Cool on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes – remove as soon as you can pick them up to a cheese cloth covered backing rack. This keeps the moisture in the cookie while cooling.

Ice with your favorite frosting recipe and store in tightly sealed container.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Cheryl said, "This is the one recipe all of grands, nieces, and nephews call me to get!" Cheryl's Aunt Carol was Carol Schmidt Kakuk, the youngest of Jessie Duclon Schmidt and Leo Schmidt's children. Carol died in 2015 and is greatly missed by her family and friends!
