1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup plus 2 level tbsp. sifted flour (sift BEFORE measuring)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup, 6 oz,. semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º. With mixer, cream butter with sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla. Stir flour with baking soda and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts and chips. Form into small mounds or drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until light golden brown. Cool on racks.

Mother's choc. chip recipe...hers always came out chewy (yummy); mine always seemed too cakey. Suspect I didn't sift flour before measuring. Also shouldn't have used mixer to add flour.
