1 T. white corn syrup
1 c. evaporated milk
3 c. sugar
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, syrup,and milk in heavy saucepan, stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Get sugar crystals off sides of pan. Heat until mixture starts to boil. Add dates and cook until firm ball stage in cold water. Remove from heat and beat with wooden spoon until it thickens. Add nuts and continue beating until stiff enough to roll. Roll in damp cloth until firm enough to slice.

Grandma Eva made this every time, no problems. The magic is in the beating, long enough to get firm, not not enough to go to sugar. Try your luck!
