1 c shortening
2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c sour milk (add 2 tsp of vinegar to the milk)

3 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

1 1/2 c broken pecans or walnuts
2 c of mixed fruit (combination of fruit and red & green glace cherries
2 c chopped dates
Sprinkle prepared fruit with a little of the flour

Directions:

Cream together sugar and shortening and add eggs and sour milk.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet.
Add fruit to the mixture and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Drop onto greased cookie sheet by teaspoons(or on parchment paper).
Bake in a 350º oven about 9-12 minutes.

These are great Grandma Ilah Huffman's Christmas fruit cookies. Enjoyed by her grandchildren over many Christmas'. After she passed, Grampa Gerald Huffman took over making these so HIS grandchildren could enjoy.
