2 tbsp. oil
4 c. sliced onions
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. dark beer
3 c. beef or chicken broth
1.5-2 c. gruyere or swiss cheese, grated
4 slices of country style bread or baguette

Directions:
Directions:
1. In a medium sauce pan heat oil. Add onion & sugar.
2. Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally for 20-25 minutes.
3. Sprinkle flour over onion mixture and then slowly add beer while stirring
4. Pour in broth and bring to a boil. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
5. Pour soup into French onion soup bowls. Top with bread and gruyere cheese.
6. Boil until cheese is melted
