"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Personal Notes:
This recipe is from my Mom's side of the family and was originally called "Overnight Layered Green Salad". Our son, Dan, loves this salad and nothing pleases him more someone setting the whole salad in front of him. Many times the leftovers have gone home with him, and consequently the family has called this "Dan's Salad". From the original recipe ~ "Assemble this salad the night before to allow flavors to mingle. Everything settles on a bed of shredded lettuce, and it makes an impressive presentation when served in a clear glass bowl."
