½ c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. flour
½ c. cocoa
½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ c. chopped walnuts (optional)

(Double recipe for 9”x13” pan)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until well blended.
Blend dry ingredients together in separate bowl.
Mix all together. Stir in nuts, if desired.
Spread in well-greased pan (8” x 8” – single batch, 9”x13” double batch)
Bake approx. 30 minutes for 8”x8” pan, 40-45 minutes for 9”x13” pan.

Optional: Frost with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
