Ingredients for mix in the jar:
1¼ cups sugar
1¼ cups M&M candy
2 cups flour mixed with 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon baking powder

Layer ingredients in the order given in a 1-quart wide-mouth canning jar. It will be a tight fit. Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient. Attach a card to the jar with instructions on how to make the cookies.

Ingredients needed to add to dry mix:
1 stick butter or margarine, softened
1 egg slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla, optional

Directions:
Empty jar of cookie mix into a large mixing bowl. Add butter, egg and vanilla. Mix until completed blended. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2 inches apart on a sprayed (or parchment lined) baking sheet. Bake at 375º for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to wire racks to complete cooling.
Makes 2½ dozen cookies.
