Pudding:
1/2 pkg dates (cut into pieces)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
1 T. butter
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Sauce:
1/2 stick butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. water
2 T. cornstarch

Directions:

Pudding:
Combine all ingredients, mix well. Pour into a 1 lb. coffee can and steam in a double boiler for 3 hrs.
Remove from coffee can.
Serve warm topped with sauce.

Sauce:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat almost to a boil. As it reaches a boiling point, mix 1/4 c. of the mixture into the cornstarch. Add cornstarch mixture to remaining mixture in saucepan, remove from heat and mix well.
