6 granny smith apples
4 oz butter (cut into pieces)
1/2 C brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt

2 C fresh breadcrumb
3 Tbl Oatmeal
4 oz butter room temp
1/2 C brown sugar
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven 350 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes.

Peel, core and slice apples. (an eighth).

In a bowl, mix apples with butter, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

Butter the bottom of a baking dish, put apple mixture on bottom.

In a bowl, mix fresh breadcrumbs, oatmeal, butter, brown sugar and salt.

Your hands are the best tool here. Rub it between your fingers, pinch so there will be large chunks.

Spread breadcrumb mixture over apples. Do not press down. Put in oven.

Serve at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Hint on how to make fresh bread crumbs - tear three pieces of bread (white, wheat, anything will do) and put in Cuisinart. Pulse until the the big pieces disappear.

Our friend Anne Henders used to make this desert and it was Matthew's favorite. I changed the recipe a bit to give it more flavor.
