1 cup water
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
5 potatoes (thinly sliced)
1 cup chopped onion
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 cups milk
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups cubed smoked ham

Directions:
Directions:
1) Mix water and cream of tartar in a large bowl.
2) Stir potatoes into water mixture until potatoes are well coated; drain.
3) Layer potatoes and onion in a slow cooker; season with salt and black pepper.
4) Heat milk and flour in a saucepan over med. heat, stirring often, until boiling. about 5 min. Season with salt and black pepper
5) Pour about half the milk sauce over the potato mixture.
6) Scatter Cheddar cheese and ham into the slow cooker; cover with remaining milk sauce
7) cook on Low setting for 9 to 10 hours or on high for 4 1/2 to 5 hours.
