For making biscuits:
3 cups flour
4 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 cup milk

For making dessert biscuits:
same ingredients as above but also add
2 eggs
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar
Directions:
Directions:
Add dry ingredients to bowl and stir with fork. Cut in shortening. Make well in center and pour in 1/2 cup milk, stir. Pour in rest of milk (and eggs/sugar if making dessert option).
Knead briefly (for a few seconds). Roll or pat to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thickness. Can slice into squares or use biscuit cutter to cut into rounds. Place on cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes at 400º.
If making cobbler topping, drop by tbsp. onto top of prepared fruit cobbler, leaving about one inch between dollops of topping. Bake 15-18 minutes at 400º. Can also roll into large rectangular shape, sprinkle with fruit and roll up like jelly roll. Bake 400º
for 20 minutes. My favorite.... I cut dough into squares, sprinkle with sugar, bake, and then slice through middle, fill with strawberries, top with whipped cream and serve while warm.

This makes a fair amount so I usually cut recipe in half or thirds, depending on how many people you are making this for. Love this for strawberry shortcake.
