2 sticks of butter, softened
½ cup shortening
3 cups sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
3 cups flour (sifted 3 or 4 times)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
4 tbsps cocoa
1 cup milk
5 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º, Spray heavy weighted bundt cake pan with Pam.

Mix together flour, salt, baking powder and cocoa and sift them together. Set aside.

In standing mixer using paddle attachment cream together butter, shortening and sugar. Add vanilla. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk mixing well in between each addition. Add eggs in one at a time beating well between each addition.

Bake for 1 hour. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

This cake is one of the sweetest memories I have of my Grandmother (Martha Gilchrist). This is a very special recipe from an incredibly special woman. This cake and her hugs were totally worth the drive from New York to Alabama.
