2 cups brown sugar
1 cup margarine or ½ cup butter and ½ cup margarine (melted)
3 eggs (beaten)
4 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon soda

PART 2
1 pound dates cut up
½ cup nut meats (cut up)
1 cup white sugar
½ cup water

Mix these 4 together and bring to a boil over medium heat (until like paste)

Mix brown sugar (melt shortening) cool, mix with brown sugar. Add eggs and beat. Add 4 cups flour, salt, cinnamon and soda and vanilla.

Divide dough into 3 or 4 small balls. Roll out dough (each ball) into a rectangle. Spread date mixture on rectangle and roll up (roll onto wax paper). Roll wax paper around the dough. Place in refrigerator.

May cut roll into slices and bake that day or the next day.

Makes 3 or 4 dozen cookies Prep time: 40 minutes
Cook time: 350° for 7 minutes
