2 Tbsp. shortening
5 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup boiling water

6 beaten eggs

2 beatedn egg whites

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve the butter, shortening, salt and sugar in the 1 cup of boiling water. Add cold milk. Meanwhile, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and add 2 Tbsp. sugar. Pour the first mixture into the flour. Add the 6 beaten eggs and yeast and stir to a light dough. Let rise once. Cut off 12 equal pieces.
Form lightly into long strips about 1 inch in diameter. Braid without stretching dough, beginning in the middle and working toward either end. For a 4 strand braid, throw the strips alternately under and over. Seal ends of strands and tuck under braid. Brush generously with beaten egg yolks. Cover and let rise in a warm place until very light and puffy, about 1 hour. Bake about 15 minutes in a 350º oven. Take braids out of the oven and brush with beaten egg whites in the cracks of the braids. Bake for another 15 to 20 minutes or until brown.
Be sure not to knead the bread after it has risen. Form at once into the strips to braid.
