Grandma Olga's Sauerkraut Pyrishky Recipe

Ingredients: 4 cups flour 1 cup margarine, softened 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp sugar 1 pkg yeast, dissolved as per pkg instructions 1 cup sour cream 3 eggs, beaten 1 can sauerkraut 1 large onion, chopped 1/2 pound of bacon (optional)

Directions:Mix flour, margarine, salt and sugar in large mixing bowl until combined. Add yeast, sour cream and eggs to flour mixture and mix well until combined. Cover mixture and let it cool in the fridge overnight.
Boil sauerkraut in large saucepan for 15-20 minutes on medium-high heat. Meanwhile, fry onion in butter or margarine until translucent. Add bacon if desired. Combine with sauekraut to make filling.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Remove cooled dough from fridge and roll out on floured surface. Use small cup to cut small dough circles. Fill each dough circle with 1 tsp of filling and seal edges. Brush with egg wash mixture. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 15-20 minutes. |
