Directions: |
Directions:Heat milk and pour into a large mixing bowl. Dissolve the yeast into the warm milk then add sugar, butter, salt and egg. Add 2 c. flour, beat with beaters. Then add enough flour to handle as you pour the dough on the floured cutting board. Knead in as much flour as you can to handle dough...knead gently till you have a sticky dough. Put back in mixing bowl and cover with a towel to rise to double in bulk. Roll out the dough about 1" thick and cut in triangles or with a doughnut cutter. Fry in hot grease till lightly browned. Place on paper towels or a paper bag to remove excess grease. While hot, put a few donuts or donut holes at a time into a paper bag that has sugar & cinnamon in it. Shake till donuts are covered. You may also want to make a boiled brown sugar/water glaze to dip donuts in and then cover them with pecans or walnuts. You may also choose to frost some. |

Notes: I remember eating these yummy homemade donuts that melt in your mouth on a special Saturday morning when mom had extra time to treat us! We loved shaking the hot donuts in the bag and then downing them with a cold glass of milk! A recipe passed on from my Grandmother Ada Gruman.
