1 lb butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and powdered sugar. Add egg, and mix well. Add salt, vanilla and flour. Roll dough on a floured board to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350º for 8 to 10 minutes, until slightly golden. Cool on a rack, and decorate as desired.

Cookie Icing

Combine 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar with a couple drops of vanilla or other flavoring, and enough milk (2 to 3 Tbsp) to make a firm, slightly runny icing. Color as desired. Iced cookies can be decorated with fondettes, colored sprinkles, etc while the icing is soft. Icing will set to give a firm, smooth glaze finish.
