1 3/4 cups sugar
4 TBS flour
2 TBS cornstarch
4 TBS cocoa
4 egg yolks (keep whites for meringue)
2 1/4 cups water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 stick oleo
2 tsp vanilla
9" baked pie shell

Meringue
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Pie
* Mix together sugar, flour, cornstarch & cocoa; set aside.

* In top of double boiler; mix egg yolks, water, salt & oleo.

* Add dry ingredients.

* Cook until bubbly & thickened, stirring constantly.

* Add vanilla.

* Pour into baked pie shell.

Meringue
* Beat egg whites until frothy.

* Gradually add, cream of tartar, cornstarch, sugar & vanilla.

* Beat until stiff peaks form.

* Spoon over cooled pie, sealing at edge.

* Brown @ 350ºF for 15-18 minutes.

Can serve with whipped cream instead of meringue.
