1 cup Crisco
1-1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
grated rind of an orange
juice from orange + enough buttermilk (**) to make 1 cup
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking powder
pinch salt
5 cups flour (do test cookie)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add orange rind, salt, vanilla, soda and baking powder.
Add buttermilk/juice mixture, then flour. Refrigerate dough.

Bake at 375º for 10-12 minutes.

Frosting:
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup orange juice
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. finely grated orange rind
powdered sugar
(makes enough for all cookies in this recipe)

** To make sour milk, use 1 tbsp. vinegar or lemon juice and enough milk to make 1 cup. Let sit 5 minutes before adding to recipe.
