4 C sifted flour
1 level tsp baking powder
1/2 C sugar
Lemon juice and rind from 1 lemon
1 tsp. rum extract
3 eggs
4 Tbsp. milk or water
1/4 lb. of butter
powdered sugar
oil for frying

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix the first 8 ingredients together and roll out to approximately 1/4 inches
2. Cut into strips 6 inches long and 1 inch wide
3. Make a slit in one end of the strip about 1 inch from the end and loop the other end through evenly.
4. Drop into hot oil and cook until golden brown, turn over to brown both sides. They cook rapidly.
5. Once out of oil place to cool on draining racks.When cool sprinkle with powdered sugar.

This recipe is from my "Bavarian Mom" who I called "Mutti". She lived in Schwabach, Bavaria. She taught me this and other delicious recipes when we lived there for a year.
