1 cup oatmeal
1-1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
FROSTING FOR CAKE
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoon softened butter
1 tablespoon flour
1/4 cup cream or milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts
mix altogether and set aside

Directions:
Directions:
Put oatmeal in a bowl then pour the boiling water over oatmeal and set aside.
In another bowl add sugar, shortening, salt, cinnamon, and eggs
Beat well
Add the oatmeal water mixture and beat well
Add flour, soda, and vanilla.
Preheat oven to 350º
Grease 9x13" pan and bake 25-30 minutes then take out of oven and spread frosting on the cake then put back in oven until frosting bubbles.
You can also put frosted cake under broiler to bubble frosting but you have to watch it closely so it doesn't burn.
