Personal Notes:
What can I say about these cookies? They took on a life of their own, that's for sure. When I was in 7th grade, I wanted to "invent" my own cookie. My family ate so many iterations of this recipe, I'm surprised they ever wanted to eat cookies again. It took me til about 9th grade to get the mix just right, then when I was in college, I split the flour in half and used a cup of oatmeal and a cup of flour. Marcie McLaughlin still has these cookies at the top of her Christmas list every year, and so many friends request these cookies. I like to think that of everything I bake and cook, these are my trademark, and hopefully a legacy recipe for you girls to pass along to your kids and on down for generations to come.
