Ingredients: 1 oz. yeast ¼ cup warm water ¾ cup lukewarm milk 1 t salt ¼ cup sugar ½ cup butter 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk 1 t lemon flavoring 3 ½ to 4 cups flour

Directions:Dissolve yeast in warm water. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, beat well. Add milk, dissolved yeast, salt and lemon. Add ½ flour and beat. Add rest of flour and knead until smooth. Let rise 1 ½ hours. Punch down and let rise ½ hour. Shape*. Let rise until doubled, about 40 – 60 minutes.
Bake on lower rack at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
*Cut in 9 pieces and make long strands of each. Make 3 braids and put 2 on the bottom and one on top. |

Notes: When I was growing up my grandmother used to make this for all the holidays. The house smells heavenly while it's cooking. We ate it for breakfast, dessert, and when it got a day or 2 old (not often since it was usually gone by then) my Mom used to make toast out of it for breakfast. ENJOY! Happy Holidays!
