For Bread:

Preheat oven to 350. Grease two loaf pans. Mix all ingredients for bread together (I suggest start with all the wet and add dry on top) for 2 minutes on medium - or until thoroughly mixed and no lumps remain.

Bake for 1 1/4 hours until lightly golden brown and no longer wet when toothpick is inserted to middle.

Cool 10 minutes in pan, then remove from loaf pan. Make glaze while cooling and glaze loaves generously.

For Glaze:

Mix glaze ingredients. Pour onto bread while still warm. (I suggest warming mixed ingredients in microwave for 10-20 seconds to melt sugar and warm all ingredients)

Personal Notes:
Makes approximately 2 medium loaves or one very large. Or four individual.

Grandma made these every year and gave each family a loaf or two. As the kids got older - they even got a small one of their own! It just feels like Christmas when these are around!

*NOTE: I have decreased the amount of sugar from her original recipe. It tastes the same - actually perhaps a bit better since you can truly taste the poppy seeds and almond - not just ‘sweet’. The original recipe called for 2 1/2 cups of sugar!
