2 / 3oz. pkg cream cheese
1 8oz. pkg sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup margarine
4 egg whites,stiffly beaten
1 1lb. loaf unsliced bread,with crusts trimmed and cut into 1" cubes

Directions:

Combine cheeses and margarine in the top of a double boiler,stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
Remove from heat. fold a small amount of hot cheese mixture into egg whites. Fold egg whites into remaining cheese mixture. With a fork dip bread cubes into cheese,coating all sides. Place on a greased cookie sheet,cover and chill overnight. Bake,uncovered,at 400ºF for 10-12 min. Makes 8 dozen. Puffs may be frozen before baking.

I put this recipe in with the Bread section because I was really low on bread items. But it is really an appetizer. Don't run out and buy a double boiler..I have never owned one and have done fine with a makeshift one. This is documented as Fall BBQ, 10/15/89 Chris's and comes from Stir Crazy pg. 14.
